About This Town
 

Established by the British in the year 1823 on a ridge 2km above sea level the hill town of Mussoorie (30.45°N 78.08°E) is a favorite destination to many. The place owes its name to the indigenous shrub of Mansoor which is abundantly available in this region.

On clear days the lush green fields of the Doon valley and crisp snow peaks of the Indian Himalayas gives you the sights to behold,  the town commands spectacular view of snow ranges to the north-east, and glittering views of the Doon Valley and Shivalik ranges in the south,


All these reasons are more than enough to get yourself to this heavenly place however there is more to this place that meets your eye in the first glance


Home to beautiful mountain trails, lush jungles and beautiful monuments Mussoorie has its share of bird sanctuaries, waterfalls and treks which can be explored. The jungles have abundance of Deodars and Oak trees with bustling wildlife

The seasons of Mussoorie
 

Summers (April – June): The cool temperatures and fresh Mountain air gives you a much welcome respite from the plains. Mussoorie escapes the cruel heat of the other cities however the town can get extremely crowded. These months are also considered as the tourist season

 

Monsoons (July – September): In monsoons rains the mountains remain covered in sheets of mist,   Mussoorie experiences heavy rainfall but the greenness and the beauty of this place becomes unparalleled during this season. The flipside is that you might have to stay indoors in case of incessant rains


Winters (November- February): The mercury can drops to 0 degrees with occasional snowfall, the maximum temperature revolves around 10 degrees, and Mussoorie in winters is excellent for those who want see this town in a different light, the exceptions to theses are Christmas and New Year.
